The Dog Is Also on the Guest List

Every household has a hierarchy, and somewhere near the top sits an animal who contributes nothing but morale. December is when this arrangement pays out. The dog attends every gathering, forgives every schedule change, and pretends the wrapping paper is a gift for them too. A small December dividend is only fair.

The soft plush round pet bed handles the main event: the long winter nap. Round, deep, and unapologetically fluffy, it gives the household's hardest-working sleeper a proper headquarters. Watch it get claimed within the hour, then defended like territory.

For post-bath dignity, or just because, a fast-drying pet bathrobe turns the least popular household event into something tolerable. It absorbs the wet, ends the shivering, and briefly transforms the dog into a tiny spa guest. Nobody involved has to discuss it afterward.

The cat, meanwhile, accepts tribute rather than gifts. A water fountain is the correct offering: moving water, quietly filtered, dispensed with the gravity a cat expects. It may still prefer the bathroom tap. That's between the cat and the tap.

The season is full of presents for people who say "you shouldn't have." The animal never says that. Frankly, it's the easiest recipient on the list.
